About Charities Of Houston?
Charities of Houston founders Dale Baca, a former Air Craft Mechanic for the DEA and wife Olivia Baca, a Banker, wanted to find a way to help Houston area families in need. So they decided to start “Charities of Houston” an independent charity and thrift store dedicated to helping struggling families. Now this charitable organization provides free assistance to families in the Houston area.
Our organization’s mission is to provide emergency clothing and household items, free of charge, to families with substantiated needs. With this goal in mind we accept charitable donations from all over the Houston Area.
Your purchases at the Charities of Houston thrift store allow us to provide clothing and household essentials to families in need. Our Home set-up program is made possible by your generous donations of clothing, furniture, appliances, left-over garage sale items, home-decor items, utility items and vehicles etc. All of which we collect daily through our prompt and scheduled donation pickup service.
Not only do we accommodate families in need we also provide other important programs to help our families continue to improve their lives and pursue careers. With programs like our Dress for Success Program, Resume and Beginner’s Computer Classes, Youth School Business, Home Set-up Program, and Vehicle Maintenance Classes we hope to make a difference in our community.

"No one organization can single-handedly help every family in crisis in a city as large as Houston. We encourage our supporters to assist additional organizations as well, such as the Salvation Army, Purple Heart and Goodwill. You can contribute to our charitable effort by shopping at our store, providing monetary contributions and by donating clothes, furniture, appliances, food, utility items or vehicles.
Charities of Houston welcomes referrals from all churches or non-profits in the Greater Houston Area. Should a church or non-profit group become aware of a family in need, that organization can refer the family to Charities of Houston for assistance. The Church or non-profit organization should provide the family with a letter of referral written on the organization's letterhead. Referrals should include the church or non-profit's contact information, type of assistance needed and a brief summary describing the crisis situation.
